From there it’s the final leg to Friendly Cove, serenaded by the crashing surf along a pebbled beach. Stretches along the shoreline feature sea caves and pocket beaches, perfect sites for sheltered camping at Maquinna Point. Watch for the remains of a long house and culturally modified trees.Īs you get further south the hike turns inland along cliffs overlooking the open Pacific Ocean, offering views of migrating grey whales and rafts of sea otters. Further along at Bajo Point the remains of an ancient Mowachaht/Muchalaht village still exists in the rain forest. Wolf sightings are becoming more frequent in the area so be diligent with your food stores and waste. Surf huts are tucked away in the rain forest nearby. This is a great destination to spend a day, clean up and recharge. Calvin Falls is one the hike’s highlights as Calvin Creek cascades over a waterfall to the ocean. Some areas are impassable at high tide but there are marked trails heading overland for these stretches. The majority of the hike is along the shoreline, on sandy beaches and over rocky escarpments. With an‘infinity pool’ thanks to a tidal dammed creek and established campsites this is a great place to enjoy the first day and soak up the west coast experience swimming, beachcombing and exploring. Upon landing at Louie Bay Lagoon it is a 45 minute hike through a rain forest along a marked trail to Third Beach and the open Pacific Ocean and miles of sandy beaches, perfect for beachcombing. Pilots double as tour guides, pointing out significant landmarks and insights into the history of Nootka Island. Far superior to a water taxi, this 40k flight offers spectacular views of Nootka Sound, flying over the route you will hike to help familiarize yourself with the route. Hiking the Nootka Trail begins in Gold River, BC with Air Nootka floatplane service to Louie Bay at the north end of Nootka Island. Better MC PLUS - Special Edition server hosting. If you would like to implement our API into your service, head over to the API documentation page to read up on the API routes. Rent your very own Modded Minecraft Server with Nodecraft Instantly setup your Modded Minecraft. All of our services are open source, and available for you to view on our GitHub organization. We also utilize Redis to store and retrieve cached statuses extremely fast. Our API is built from the ground up using Go - a high performance programming language - and we directly communicate with the Minecraft server using the official networking protocol. The icon route allows you to embed your server's icon directly into your website without ever having to worry about updating it, and the widget route shows your users a preview of your server without them having to open the game. Get additional help from the Fabric Discord server, or ask a question on the GitHub Discussion forums. While statuses are our main focus, we also offer additional routes like retrieving an server icon and a generated status widget. In addition to just retrieving the Minecraft server status, we also use the query protocol for Java Edition servers, allowing us to get extra information about the servers like plugins and software information. This allows you to embed this information on your website exactly as you see it in-game. We also offer many features that our competitors do not, such as formatting options for the MOTD, version name, and sample player names. This duration was entirely unnecessary, which is why we only cache statuses for up to 1 minute from the last retrieval. Some of our competitors use unnecessarily long cache times, meaning it could take up to 5 minutes to get the up-to-date status of any server you requested. To this day, we serve an average of 150K unique users, 130 million requests, and about 1 terabyte of data per month. While working with other existing services, I realized the many missing features that developers could use which inspired me to start my own service. This service was inspired by but built from the ground up with speed and reliability in mind. We also offer an API for developers to programmatically retrieve the status of Minecraft servers, with a very lenient cache duration of only 1 minute. Install predator guards on trees in areas where bobcats could use them to gain access to your poultry and other animals. Remove any sick or injured animals immediately. During the birthing season keep young and vulnerable animals secure at all times. Keep livestock and small animals confined in secure pens from dusk to dawn. Keep poultry securely locked up at night. Be sure to overlap and securely wire seams on top to prevent bobcats from forcing their way in. Enclose outdoor pens with 1 inch chicken wire placed over a sturdy wooden frame. Keep poultry (chickens, turkeys, ducks) in a secure outdoor pen with well fitted doors. The buildup of food will attract small mammals which in turn can attract bobcats. If you have bird feeders in your yard clean up any excess food that falls from the feeders to the ground to prevent it from building up. In areas with high bobcat activity, use the following tactics to deter them from making an impact. However occasionally they are responsible for losses of poultry, lambs, small goats, pigs and house cats. They establish their territories with scent markings.ĭid you know? Bobcats are excellent swimmers and tree climbers.īobcats are not often responsible for killing domestic animals and typically use wild animals as prey items. Females never share their territory with each other but male territories will overlap with several females. During the mating seasons screams and hisses can be heard.īobcats are very territorial. Residents are adults that generally reside in a single home range, transients are yearlings who are dispersing, and kittens are individuals still under maternal care.īobcats rarely vocalize but they can produce loud growls and snarls. There are three social classes of Bobcats residents, transients and kittens. They cache leftover prey, covering it with debris, and will revisit the carcass until most of it is consumed.ĭid you know? In Washington, the majority of a Bobcat’s diet consists of Mountain Beaver.īobcats are solitary except during the breeding season and when females are rearing kittens. They use sight and sound to hunt their prey and catch it by using a combination of stalking and ambushing. The majority of their diet consists of rabbit but they will also feed on deer, rodents, birds, reptiles, amphibians, carrion, insects and eggs. They remain with her, learning how to hunt, until they disperse at eight months.īobcats can live to be 12 years old in the wild.īobcats are carnivorous generalists and their diet varies seasonally. They emerge from the den when they are just over one month old and start accompanying the female on hunts at three months. Kittens are blind, helpless and weigh roughly half a pound when they are born. On average Bobcats give birth to three kittens typically between April and July, although they can give birth year round. They carefully line the inside of their den with soft debris such as moss, dry leaves and grass formed into a small depression.Ī female will have several den sites while rearing her kittens she constantly moves them to keep them safe from predators.ĭid you know? The back of their ears are black with white patches, their short tail has a black tip, and they have ruffs of hair on the side of their head which look like sideburns.ĭid you know? A Bobcat’s coat is like a fingerprint, it is unique to the individual and can be used to identify them.īobcats have evolved to survive in a variety of habitats including forests, semi-deserts, mountains and bushland. Their coat can be various shades of brown with varying patterns of dark brown spots and stripes. They are a medium sized feline weighing between 10 and 35 pounds, averaging 3 feet in length, have a 5 inch tail, and males are larger than females. Today populations are stable and Bobcats are classified as a species of least concern everywhere except New Jersey and parts of Mexico where they are listed as endangered.ĭid you know? There are seven species of native felines in North America and the Bobcat is the most common.īobcats are elusive, nocturnal, and rarely seen. In the 1970’s international laws were put into place to protect the world’s spotted cats since then Bobcat populations have been rebounding. However, due to agriculture expansion and hunting for their fur, populations declined and became restricted in the Midwest U.S. Historically, Bobcats ( Lynx rufus, named for their short tail) could be found across the 48 contiguous United States, Canada and Mexico. “Expo 2020 Dubai will have a real-time digital core, with the streamlined technology infrastructure that can drive innovation and deliver unique participant and visitor experiences,” said Hoda Mansour, Executive Sponsor of Expo 2020 Dubai at SAP, the event’s Premier Innovative Enterprise Software Partner. SAP S/4HANA is a real-time enterprise resource planning suite for digital business, built on an advanced in-memory platform, SAP HANA®, and offers a personalized, consumer-grade user experience with SAP Fiori®. This enables us to keep the pavilion’s carbon footprint ultra low, and we will leave behind a clear building plot with only desert sand at the end.The new digital platform transforms back-office and visitor-facing capabilities for the global mega event, which is expected to host 25 million visits over 6 months from October 2020.Įxpo 2020 Dubai went live with SAP S/4HANA in only seven months. At the end of Expo 2020, this material will be returned to the local construction industry so that it can be used in new projects. We borrowed all of the construction materials, namely the sheet piling and tubular struts, from the Dutch firm Meever, that also has a branch in Dubai. These elements are normally used to create foundation pits for skyscrapers or harbour basins, which is something we are good at in the Netherlands. The pavilion is actually made with the only material that can be ‘harvested’ locally in addition to sand, namely steel sheet piling. A typical example of Dutch civil engineering Mycelium is the vegetative part of a fungus, that after drying forms the basis of these building products. In the VIP lounge, floor tiles and acoustic wall elements have been designed and implemented using a new bio-based building material that is based on mycelium. In this regard, it features unique innovations such as a bio-based curtain made from biopolymers, especially designed solar panels that generate energy and at the same time supply sunlight to the edible plants. The materials used in the interior are also reusable, recyclable, or biologically degradable. In contrast to the civil-engineering nature of the exterior, the interior of the pavilion adds a layer of light and refinement. This keeps the carbon footprint of the pavilion as small as possible. All of the materials used will be returned or will gain another purpose at the end. Not only has the pavilion been designed to showcase sustainability and circularity, but it has also been built with these in mind. The sensory experience of this, combined with a fantastic visitors’ show by Kossmann De Jong and BIND provides a sensational feeling of the power of nature and Dutch innovations based on nature. Water, energy, and food are harvested within this system in a circular manner. A climate system is being created using natural phenomena, such as condensation, solar energy, photosynthesis, fungus production, the degree of humidity, and temperature transmission. The architecture of the pavilion is a physical representation of the Netherlands’ key message at this international exhibition, namely the inextricable link between water, energy, and food. The Netherlands pavilion is markedly different to the other pavilions: That is because the pavilion itself is the exhibition and user experience. Sensory experience of the nexus between water, energy, and food Vinyl or galvanized corner bead is recommended.įrom there I covered the seams with Backerboard Seam Tape, but to be honest, I wish I would have used a wider fiberglass mesh. I then installed some corner bead to the exterior corners. Due to the alkaline nature of the concrete board, standard screws can rust over time. When using concrete board be sure to use specific screws designed to work with concrete board, not standard drywall screws. Once the frame was up and secured, we installed concrete board to the front, sides and interior opening of the fireplace surround. The progress shot our contractor sent us of the cement boards (When working with steel studs you have to make sure to use fasteners that are designed for metal to properly connect the metal studs together.) We then attached the frame to existing studs in the wall where possible. The arch located at the top of the fireplace opening was made of a steel stud as well which had the side supports trimmed to allow the stud to be bent into a curve. To ensure the proper clearance of combustible material, we only used wood 2x4s on the outermost frame supports, with all remaining portions of the frame constructed with steel studs. Knowing I had a short deadline to work with, we worked with some friends who have a handyman business to help me with the frame. We started out by building a 2×4 frame that extended to the ceiling. Our entire surround is built out of non combustible cement products, brick and steel, except for the outermost studs of the frame. The key is to keep all combustible materials away from the fireplace opening. We came up with a design with a similar look that also worked with fire code! Below is the process, materials, and total cost! The inspiration for our fireplace by MagnoliaĪnna’s vision for the new look of our fireplace surround was heavily influenced by the look of classic Southwest and Spanish stucco fireplaces. So, to minimise the risk of plaster cracking, instead of recommending the stove in a newly rendered fireplace isn’t used for 1 week, we recommend the stove isn’t used for 4 weeks. We are hoping to break down the process of our fireplace design to answer any questions you may have if you want to give this a try in your own home! When looking into revamping a fireplace surround, it is really important to research, and make sure you check out both national fire code and local fire code before you begin! We consulted multiple fireplace/chimney companies in the area, and spoke with a member of our local fire department just to make sure we were on track. Lime takes longer to set through the process of carbonisation than the time sand and cement takes to dry out. There’s one thing to watch out for when choosing to have a fireplace rendered in Lime. – using Lime to render a fireplace takes no longer than using sand and cement It is usually required for any Listed building. – it is a traditional material free of any chemicals, particularly suitable for older buildings and new environmentally friendly buildings. – lime is a softer material than modern cement and plaster which means it will give rather than cracking Cotswold stone It sets through a process of carbonisation as it is exposed to Carbon Dioxide CO2 in the air) – any small cracks that appear as a building settles, typically get sealed up naturally as the lime mortar/plaster re-carbonates (Lime does not “dry out” in the way we’re used to with modern materials. – it breathes and lets moisture out so is particularly suitable for Victorian brick buildings and older Cotswold stone buildings which don’t have cavity walls or damp courses. Lime is a traditional building material with a number of advantages over modern materials: As part of our stove installation service and where we are “knocking out”, enlarging or building a fireplace, we can offer the option of having the fire opening rendered in Lime (to be precise that’s a base coat of a lime and hemp mix with a lime plaster finish coat). I have managed to stay out of her reach for very long periods of time. To refrain from losing all stamina, I usually take my finger off the shift key for a half second before pressing it again to continue my running. Ana:Įarly game: Stun her with the UV if she is running at you…this is not necessary though, as sprinting will keep you out of her reach. Otherwise she will be running around too crazily. Please note that it’s best TO STACK ITEMS BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY GOAT SACRIFICED. I often hide here during her rage fits and have never had her run into the room with the door closed! I don’t think it’s really called that, but it’s the room with the television that has a blue screen and makes a slight noise. Med-kits can also be gathered in an area of your choice…my personal favorite area is stacking all the med-kids inside the house in the " TV ROOM". Gather the hay and place it outside in an area of your choice. Gather a good amount of fuels and drop them near the goat altar. Items appear scattered all throughout the map and it is in your best interest to gather each of the items into a particular area. This is one of the most important concepts, especially when engaging in nightmare mode. Gamesradar approved of its "highly stressful, fast-paced, downright scary experience".This guide will provide some basic strategies to aid in beating the game. Reception for the game has been generally positive, with particular focus on its frightening atmosphere, good value, and positive referrals to Phasmophobia, which entered early access four months prior to the release of Devour. Originally released on the 28th January 2021 with the single map "Farmhouse", four additional free maps have been released, starting with the rat-themed Asylum on April 21, 2021. Development ĭevour was created by Joe Fender & Luke Fanning, the two developers of indie game studio Straight Back Games as their second game. It also includes medkits to resuscitate downed party members and batteries as an additional UV source. These include keys to open up the map, with some rooms not being available until one or more totems are destroyed. There are additional items found around each map. The amount of time required to stagger the primary demon increases over time. This is a finite, recharging resource that destroys lesser hostiles and can stagger the primary demon. Players can resist being downed by fleeing hostiles or by use of the UV-mode of the flashlight each carries. In the event that all party members are simultaneously downed, the game is lost. As totems are destroyed, spawn rate increases significantly. Unlike the primary demon, they require several seconds of contact to down a player and can be directly destroyed by the player. The lesser hostiles spawn in randomly across the map. The speed, rate of pursuit, and difficulty to stagger, all increase as totems are destroyed. Once they kill enough of them, they will be sent back to the main map. On The Town and The Slaughterhouse, dead players will be banished to a different dimension, and will have to fight off the lesser demons to survive. If successful, the player is downed and will be dragged to a random location on the map (The Farmhouse and The Asylum), be dragged to a specific location (The Inn), or be outright killed (The Town and The Slaughterhouse). The primary demon moves around the full map, before switching into pursuit of a player. Threats to the player come in two forms - the primary demon of the specific map and swarms of lesser hostiles. For the later maps "Inn" and "Town", the totems themselves must be prepared at one location before being destroyed at another, slowing progress. For the original two maps "The Farmhouse" and "The Asylum", as well as the fifth map "The Slaughterhouse" this takes the form of finding a fuel item and then destroying the totem with it. The core mechanic of Devour is the destruction of ten totems (whether goats, eggs, or rats). Either finding or knowing that Azazel has possessed their comrade, the other members who arrive attempt to stop them and undo or prevent damage. Players control members of a demonic cult called the Watchers of Azazel who become aware that their leader Anna (or another cult member in other maps) is trying to raise the goat demon. The game is set in the same universe as a 2020 PC game called The Watchers. The game was released in 2021, with four more maps having been released as of 2023. Devour is a co-op PvE horror video game created by developers Straight Back Games, playable by between 1 and 4 players. Based on the test strip, and with dodging and burning effectively made by a computer producing the negative, it was decided that a 35 second exposure was what was needed. More tweaks were made to the print’s digital file – focusing on one area that was particularly murky – and a new digital negative was printed. It’s a (literally) brilliant idea to review prints. And then he took it to “The Board,” a section of wall lit by gallery lighting. Once the paper was run through the developer and fixer, Taylor used a squeegee and hair dryer to get the print fairly dry. A few minutes later, I was with Taylor Mahoney in the silver gelatin darkroom as he made an 8×10 test strip using one of my images. I was looking over Matt’s shoulder for a few minutes as he worked on one of my files. Second, they aren’t kidding when they say they want a photographer to work directly with thier darkroom techs. And Matt even turned down a walk-in “I need it now” printing job because I was there. I was the only photographer on the reservation board for the day that I was there. But the respect and professional courtesies that were extended to no-name me was humbling. I figured if I was going to travel to Flagstaff, Arizona from Honolulu, Hawaii, I might as well take full advantage of the opportunity.įirst, I should make it clear that the crew Hidden Light didn’t know me from Adam. I chose seven photos to print at Hidden Light, five with silver gelatin process and two with platinum palladium. The original was captured on Kodak BW400CN with a Zeiss Ikon Contessa 35, a 35mm fixed lens folder. Photo of a wedding party passing into the Meiji Shrine in Tokyo, Japan was used for a platinum palladium print. If that’s the secret sauce in the Hidden Light recipes, it works. While I’ve heard of using Piezography black and white print inks for prints, and Hidden Light offers that service, too, I’d never heard of them being used to make the digital negatives that Hidden Light uses for its contact prints. That monochrome negative is then printed with inks from the specialty supplier Piezography. But most of the darkroom work is hybrid – that is, they make a print-sized negative from a digital original file or a scan of a negative or transparency. Hidden Light has the enlargers to work with traditional negatives up to 8×10. The email was sent by the lab’s most recent owner, Matt Beaty. I got the price list and an invitation to join them in Flagstaff. So, I fired off an email to Hidden Light, asking for prices and confirming that an unknown photographer from Hawaii could book time in their darkroom. How about the rest of us who plant our tripods in the back 40 far removed from big name galleries and the limelight? That’s probably the case if you are a name photographer, I thought. Floyd, with Matt Beaty (in hat) and Taylor Mahoney examine a test print under gallery lighting.Īnd unlike any other commercial photo lab that I’ve ever heard of, this lab was founded on the premise that a photographer should be standing next to the printer who is turning a shooter’s vision into reality. When it comes to photographic prints, Hidden Light is a wet darkroom operation producing silver gelatin and platinum palladium print, as well as inkjet prints using Piezography inks. Then I came across a YouTube video by Ted Forbes (The Art of Photography) with the click-bait title, “ Inside the Greatest Photography Lab in Existence”. The lab, Hidden Light LLC, is in the high mountain community of Flagstaff, Arizona. While the inkjet prints are top quality – and they’ve been purchased by patrons and institutions – there’s that small voice in one’s head that whispers, “make wet darkroom prints.” But the options to make that happen are few and far between. He knows my likes and dislikes, and has printed my work for more than 20 photo exhibits, including an ongoing solo exhibit in Japan that’s anchored by a photo printed 8-feet wide by 5-feet tall. In this digital age, I’ve been most fortunate to have an outstanding printer who is an absolute genius producing beautiful inkjet prints from either digital original files or scans of the film I still shoot (mostly for personal projects). In my case, that’s because as bad a darkroom tech as I was in high school in the late 1960s and early 1970s, I was smart enough to know that I needed to think in terms of how my photo would look as a print before I snapped the shutter on my Nikkormat. For those of us of a certain age, no matter what the photo technology in our hands, we’re thinking of the output in terms of photographic prints, not pixels on a display.
