Ita along with other dedicated passionate people throughout the county have worked tirelessly to establish and expand the ladies game and the fact she continues to dedicate a huge part of her life to Cumann Peil Gael na mBan bodes very well for the future. It's not only a coincidence that the development of the ladies game has coincided with Ita Hannon's time in the sport. These statistics go some little way towards illustrating Ita's dedication to the game but record books and newsprint don't really do justice to the woman's passion and love for Cumann Peil Gael na mBan. Ita was a founder member of the Westport, Castlebar Mitchels, Carrick - on - Shannon and Kiltimagh clubs and has served as a club, county, provincial and national officer from 1979 to the present day. Her exploits have left her with a well-laden trophy cabinet, which includes numerous county, provincial and inter-provincial medals as well as an All Ireland Junior Championship medal, won with Mayo in 1987 and an All Ireland Club Championship runner-up medal from Hollymount's exploits in the same year. Mary's Carrick-on-Shannon and Annaduff as well as representing the county teams of Mayo and Leitrim and the province of Connacht. She has cherished, nurtured and developed the game in her native Mayo, in Leitrim where she lived and worked for a time, and throughout Connacht and beyond with her unstinting dedication and unselfish application.ĭuring her time as a player Ita lined out with Westport, Hollymount, Castlebar Mitchels, St. Three decades have passed since she took to the field with Westport and in the intervening years she has graced the game at every level as a player, coach, manager, referee, secretary and administrator. There is little doubt that Ita Hannon has dedicated a huge chunk of her life to Cumann Peil Gael na mBan.
